In the morning, as the sun rose, Dark found Cal was gone but her pack was still asleep. Dark got up slowly and walked around a while. He tried looking for her but eventually moved to his pack.

He found Tsal standing on a rock and watching over the pack.

"Tsal, I need your approval on something." Dark asked

"What is it?" Tsal responded.

"I was thinking about joining our pack with Cal's." Dark said.

"If you think it is alright, I am for it." Tsal replied. "I'll inform the pack tomorrow."

Then Cal cam back, and was dragging a huge deer's freshly killed body. she was dragging over to the packs. Cal let the deer on the ground and sighed as she took heavy breaths .

"Thank you leader." said Bree as she walked up and everyone began eating .

"Eat up your going to need it, we are leaving today." said Cal .

"Yes ma'am." said West and Oz

"There you are." Dark said.

He started to limp over to Cal, but he fell. He recovered himself and got back up.

"I just talked to them. They agree to joining packs. All I need is your permission."

"Well, me and my pack are moving to the north. But you are wounded I don't think you should be moving. But yes I think that is a good idea." said Cal as she gave him a piece of deer.

Dark slowly ate the venison.

"I'm fine. I'll tough it out." Dark said.

"Not with that bullet wound, if it opens it will get infected and you will die slowly." said Cal as she ate as well.

"Bullet wound?" He looked on his side and saw the hole.

He remembered being stabbed by the human, but not shot.

Cal shook her head .

"Sorry my bad. You need to eat up and rest if you are ready to leave by night fall." said Cal.

"It's alright." Dark replied.

He ate and finished the meat. Then he fell asleep. At nightfall he woke up and readied everyone for the trip. Cal met up with his pack with hers. Growls from his pack arose. Some wolves didn't like Cal or her pack. The idea of them combining made a lot of wolves mad .

Cal began to growl at the wolves and they backed down .

"Ready." asked Cal as she turned and waited for Dark

"Yeah, just give me a sec." He turned to his pack. "We are combined whether you like it or not! This is for our survival! Speak now or forever hold your peace!"

No one spoke up.

"Then I guess we are one pack now." Dark said to Cal.

"Lets go." said Cal as she turned and walked fallowed by her pack.

Her pack was walking along Side Dark's pack then slowly merged with his pack.

The two packs slowly began to get along.

Dark limped up closer to Cal.

"I think they are getting friendly to each other." Dark whispered to Cal.

"Maybe. Are you alright?" asked Cal as she noticed him limping still.

"Yeah, I'm alright. Just a little slow." Dark replied.

After a few hours they walked at this pace it would take them two weeks to get there because of Dark's wound which slowed them down. Cal walked over and grabbed the collar of his neck and she put him on her back and began to ran while he was on her back the packs followed as they ran. When they came to a stop Dark limped over to Cal.

"You have been kind to me ever since we met. I just want to know why you do it. We were stangers and yet you treat me as your mate." Dark said

"Because it is the right thing to do. I am always kind to strangers. It's what I believe. If you haven't hurt my pack, I won't see you as a enemy. Love your neighbor as yourself was something my father taught me." said Cal

"Thank you Cal." Dark said.

"No problem." Cal replied

The Tsal walked up. "Your father was a very wise man. I knew him well."

"Oh, hello, Tsal how have you been?" asked Cal

"I have been fine, ma'am." I just heard you taking about your father.

"He was a great Alpha, probably the best I ever knew." said Cal

"That he was. He was a great leader and friend. When I was the Alpha, me and your father united both of our packs. Much like what you and Dark have done." Tsal said

"The stronger the better he would say, and its is good to have friends." said Cal with a soft smile.

Cal sat down and relaxed. Dark laid down as well. West, Bree, Maggie, Oz, Dustin, and Malcolm laid next to Cal as they fell asleep. Tsal took first watch. The now united pack got together and began to rest. Dark then got up and watched them sleep. Dark stood and limped, off away from the group. He never could sleep well at night. Night felt like daytime to him.

Cal slept, then she looked up when she heard the sound of foot steps. Cal blue eyes seemed yellow as she was looking around then she softy walked in the woods.

Dark looked over his shoulder and watched Cal walk into the woods. His wound finally healed enough so he could walk slowly. He followed Cal.

Cal walked through the woods, then sniffed the air and smelt a familiar sent. A white wolf with brown walked out. It was a male. It growled and walked over, then rubbed it's cheek against her's. Both were happy and smiling. Dark watched the unfamiliar wolf. He made sure to stay out of sight. He watched them carefully for ten minutes then left. The two wolves ran off into a field and were playing like puppies and had fun, both wolves laid on their backs looking up at the stars. Dark heard them having fun, but didn't pay no mind. He didn't want to act like a third wheel and interrupt.

"You know I miss the good old days." said Cal .

The male wolf growled in agreement.

"You know we have to go." said Cal as she stood up.

The male wolf licked her forehead then he left. Cal sat up and sighed.

Dark watched her alone. Now he could talk to her. He slowly waked over.

"Who was that?" Dark asked

"Huh?" said Cal as she looked at him "Oh, that was Maine."

"Is he part of your pack?" Dark asked

"No, he is a loner." Cal replied.

Dark stayed silent for a few seconds "He's your brother, isn't he?"

"Yes." Cal said and looked up at Dark.

"Why is he a lone wolf?" Dark asked curiously.

"Its a long story. He is part of a different pack, I was apart of that pack, but I left." said Cal

"I understand." Dark replied.

"Thanks." Cal said and stood. She looked up at the sky. "It's really pretty."

"What is?" Dark said looking around.

"Nothing just the stars. They are so shinny." said Cal as she looked up.

Dark looked up. Yeah. I guess they are."

As he looked at the stars he dreamed of his past. What he did and could have done.

Cal was looking as she was humming a soft tone .

"Through the willows and the reeds, I will always be by your side. Even through the storms,I walk along side you " sang Cal very quietly.

"What are you singing?" Dark asked.

"Sorry, its just a old song my mother taught me." said Cal.

"No, it's fine. I like it. Keep singing it please. I like your voice." Dark replied.

"Oh, thank you. Not many people say that." Cal said.

Dark smiled. "Well, I say the truth. You sing very sweetly. It is calming to my soul"

Cal smiled softy then she continued to sing softly, it was like the wolves of old joined in the song .

"It was known as the battle song." said Cal.

"Really? It sounds so peaceful when you sing it." Dark said

" Yeah, is supposed to calm the warriors and unleash the wild in their heart." said Cal

After a week they arrived at the north, the pack was resting in a cave. Dark's wound was now a mere scar. He was able to walk normal and run short distances.

"We should be safe here." Dark said.

Cal nodded to him .

"We should hunt for food." said Cal as she sniffed the air for food.

"I'll gather my hunters." Dark replied and got up.

"No you rest. Your still hurting and like they said the animals here are bigger so you cant fight them now. I will take the hunters." said Cal

Cal picked out members of the pack then ran off with them into the snowy woods. Dark watched them leave.

He walked over to Tsal. "Aargh! Why can't I heal any faster!"

Tsal just stayed calm. "Dark, you are over reacting. Give it time. It is a deep wound. By the end of this month you should feel like your old self."

After a few hours , Cal and the team was dragging a huge elk. It took seven of them to drag it to the cave .

"That thing was a pain to kill." said Cal exhausted

"Good God! This thing will feed us for days!" Dark commented.

"Maybe. Let's eat." Cal said and prayed for the food.

After praying, Cal began to eat with everyone. Dark did the same. Dark ripped off a chunk of meat and began to eat it.

"Tastes different than deer." Dark said noting the new taste of meat.

"That is because its elk." said Cal as she was chewing on pieces of meat.

Cal went to the water and drank it.

Dark examined the new animal "Guess so."

Cal was drinking, then she laid down in the cave. She was deep in the cave. Cal was laying on a rock that looked over everyone. She liked it that way for she liked be alone.Dark looked at her. He left her alone. He turned to Tsal.

"Was it a good idea? Joining the packs I mean." Dark said.

"I believe it was. You saved the pack. Though I think you are more concerned about the other Alpha." Tsal said and poined over at Cal.

Cal was laying on her paws and resting, nobody saw it but she had a wound on her hip from a horn attack from the Elk. She was resting and the wound healed up.

Dark saw the blood. He slowly walked over to her and began to lick the wound.

"I am fine, it will heal." said Cal as she looked at her wounded hip.

Cal laid there quietly as she watched the pack play, eat, and rest.

"Alright. I just got a little worried when I saw the blood." Dark replied.

"Its nothing to worry about." said Cal as she looked at the pack "I wonder if they will be able to live here in this new life." said Cal as she watched them.

A loud howl filled the entrance of the cave and cal ran down as the other wolves backed away. Cal saw huge white wolves coming near to eat the elk. Cal began to growl loudly as she walked up.Dark looked up and snarled. He walked outside. His ebony fur contradicted the white snow.

"Who are you? Get away from our kill!" Dark said angrily

"What are you doing in our territory?" said a white wolf .

"If it was your territory then why wasn't it marked? said Cal .

The wolves were much bigger, but Cal kept growling. The Alpha white male walked up and sniffed Cal.

"You are a strong wolf. What is your name miss?" asked the wolf .

"Cal." said Cal

"Cal. That is a pretty name. my name is Larroy, Aplha of the white wolfs " said the big Alpha.

Dark began to get protective. He and Tsal blocked the Alpha's path to Cal. The Alpha walked passed him over to Cal then he bowed softly.

"I apologize for the way my pack was acting. If I knew such a pretty wolf such as you was living here, then please, gladly live here. It would be a honor. My pack will not bother you no more " said Larroy as he turned and left with his party

"Suck up." Dark said as the Alpha left

"Something isn't right with that one." Tsal said

Cal growled in annoyance as the Alpha left.

"Tsal, what is his problem?" Cal asked

"He is an apparent Alpha male that gets what he wants. He wants you. Now he won't leave us alone because he wants you." Tsal said

"Great... so what is Dark's problem? He is the alpha of the pack not me." said Cal as she sat next to Tsal, she was worried and tired of a lot of things the wound on her neck turned into a rather deep scar.

"Can't you tell?" Tsal asked

Tsal looked off in the distance and watched Dark sit on a far away rock that over viewed the pack.

"He likes you." Tsal responded.

He turned to her revealing his blind eyes.

"I just lost someone, I don't want another one in my life." said Cal sadly then she stood up and left the cave, she walked out into the snow then she went into a big tree that had a hole then laid down in the tree.

Dark surveyed the area and stood proud on the rock. His black fur was untouched by the white snow. He felt like he was a black stain. He stood in thought on the rock. He thought of Cal, the pack, the white wolves, everything. In the  distance, Cal began to think about Reed and soft tears rolled down her cheeks on to the snow. Then she was thinking about everything as well. Dark saw her tears out the corner of his eye. He bowed his head in remembrance and laid down on the rock. It was all his fault.

West walked up to Dark .

"It may not be my place to say this, but if you are thinking its your fault about Cal, it isn't." said West as he sat next to him.

"Dark, Reed was Cal's mate. He went on his own freewill, so it isn't your fault." said West

"But I was the one who started this whole thing. I know it was a good thing to protect Cal, but when I got stabbed Cal's pack hunted the humans. It could have been avoided." Dark replied.

He put his head down on the rock and looked at the pack.

"I only wanted to protect her. Seems like I only created more pain." Dark said.

West looked at him then saw the stars out .

"Reed was one of the best wolves I ever knew. He would do anything to protect Cal, even die. I know that is what he did. I know you think its your fault but isn't. Her pack and I mean the wolves who were in her pack before we joined, we are willing to put our lives on the line for her." said West as he stared at the stars then he began to sing the warror song.

Cal's wolves joined in and Cal's head lifted up listening to theses wolves singing together as one. Dark's wolves listened in wonder and eventually joined in. Dark then joined the song. His low baritone voice was revealed. He hardly ever sang. All the wolves sang it and the animals outside sang as well. It seemed as if the spirits of the past and dead were dancing around each of the wolves, singing along as well. Dark saw the spirits of his past leaders and past Alphas. He saw his old pack and his old family. He began to slowly cry. Cal was singing high, smiled, and cried as many wolves were around her. Cal had tears in her eyes as she howled and the wolves touched noses with her. Dark was amazed by this experience. Never before had this happened to him. The wolves of Cal's pack were smiling as they were howling loud and clear , the other wolves joined them in the song of the warrior.
